Cayman WPB

It never ceases to amaze me how some people with influence work.

I have just been reading http://www.caymannetnews.com/ and I'm starting to get upset.

There have been articles in the past in respect to the Jamaican work force and possible non-renewal of their work permits and that employers are being "encouraged to find workers from other places". WTF is that? My belief is that if you're willing to employ someone it should be on their merits or credentials alone and not where they're from.

Yes the island does have a substantial Jamaican population. So what. Do you know your geography? Not only is the island practically right next door, there are regular flights between the two countries which makes seeing family much easier. Even though Jamaica is part of Caricom and the Jamaicans could go and seek employment in Trinidad or Barbados or elsewhere in the Caribbean, it is probably costly to fly back and forth at least twice a year. Of course let us not forget the difference in the earning potential.

While Cayman is not part of caricom they're slowly heading down a road that they're not going to like the final destination. First the Visa issue now this. I would be amused if every Jamaican national in Cayman decided to stay away from the island for two months and see what happens there. There would be huge and noticeable pockets of people missing, from the domestic industry straight on up to the QC and Judges.
